Of course you’ve heard of Mt. Rushmore and probably have visted it or plan to. The Shrine of Democracy, however, is much more than an attraction. It is a source of inspiration and pride in our heritage, our freedoms, and our democracy.

In Rapid City a few years ago, a number of citizens had another concept. That idea was to locate life-size statues of our presidents on the street corners in downtown Rapid City. The first thought was that it would create interest in our downtown historic district and add to the attractiveness of that area. The result has now moved far beyond the original idea. The statues, crafted by skilled and creative artists, are magnificent bronze, life-size monuments to our country’s history.

This web site visit does not begin to represent the beauty and emotions and knowledge the actual statues convey. We do hope, however, that it will encourage you to go on a walkabout with your friends and family when you are in our area so that you can experience their magnificence first hand. (You will want to have your camera with you!) Don’t hurry – take your time, enjoy, and think about our great country.
